How To Make Professional Cornhole Bags

Professional Cornhole bags for a league like the World Series of Cornhole (WSOC) are made to a standard that regular backyard bags just can’t compete with. We will break down the reasons one-by-one.

Resin fill for professional vs backyard Cornhole bags:
Backyard Cornhole bags are often filled with a “mix” from left over resin. This comes from companies who make all kinds of plastic products and have waste. This is a great way for bag makers to cut cost while still producing good quality bags. However, professional bags aren’t looking to be just “good quality”. Pro Cornhole bags are made to have an exact throw between the bags. For this reason they use a resin that is made specifically to have the proper volume to weight for the bags. There may be a slight mix of materials but it is much more consistent than “chopped resin” (waste resin). Many people ask: how much does a Cornhole bag weigh? Well the answer is 16 oz. But all leagues allow for a little variance between the bags. The WSOC requires pro Cornhole bags to weigh 15.75 – 16.25 oz. Your backyard bags will generally have a greater variance in weight.

WSOC Cornhole bag size requirements:
When a bag is lying flat it needs to fit parameters as well. Each professional Cornhole bag needs to meet the following requirements for the WSOC:

Thickness 1.125 - 1.5 inches

At the narrowest point, the bags need to be 5.75 also from corner to corner 8.25 inches.

The bags cannot have any threads showing that are more 1/8th inch from its seam.

What material (fabric) are professional Cornhole bags made with?
Professional bags are not like the regular duck cloth bags as they have dual fabrics (2 different speeds of slide). This is done so players can set a blocker bag or attack the hole and push bags into the hole. These fabrics vary from maker to maker but they are generally always different fabrics on each side.

The materials are also made of stronger longer lasting materials than your average bag. The cheapest version of the dual-sided Cornhole bag is the duck cloth and suede microfiber version. This option also allows for cool designs to be put on the bags. Let’s face it; it’s a lot more fun to have a cool design than just solid color plain bags. This “slick and stick Cornhole bag” is very common. High end bags do not use duck cloth on either side of the bag, instead using high end fabric on each side. Some Cornhole bags are printed on both sides others use a much higher grade carpet on the opposite side. There are many approved bag makers for the WSOC.

How are Professional Cornhole Bags sewn?
Pro Cornhole bags are generally sewn by machine for an exact stitch. This eliminates human error and makes the bags perfectly consistent each time. You will also notice a pro bag slightly (very slight) curves in at the middle point of the bag. They are not perfectly square like most backyard Cornhole bags. Almost all these bags are double stitched on the inside for longer lasting play time. These bags are meant to be used often and hold up over time. If you play Cornhole on a regular basis we would recommend spending more upfront as the bags will last much longer. The closing stitch is also smaller on a professional bean bag. Again, this is a double stitch to insure quality of the bag.

You will notice professional bags uses a cross stitch with another stitch down the middle. We believe this is the highest quality stitch on the market. With the stitch being smaller the bag is much easier to handle in your hand. You will also notice the material for these bags is much softer. These are the top of the line and you will know if the moment you touch the bags.

How do they put images on the professional bean bags?
The bags are made with a polyester based material that allows for dye sublimation. These materials are then put into a heat press and the ink is transferred to the cloth fabric. The image should last a long time using this process. The ink will not transfer onto your boards during play. After the heat press is complete the inks are set into the fabric. As said you can choose from many images and pick the bag designs that speak to you.

We hope this covered everything you were looking to learn about professional Cornhole bags. If you think of other questions please let us know so we can add it to the write-up. As always, have fun!
